About us
Raise is a specialist investment management business building funds specifically designed for New Zealand investors.
Raise is registered on the Financial Service Providers Register to provide investment manager services and is responsible for making underlying investment decisions for its funds.
Raise seeks to leverage our deep understanding of the NZ investment administration and management landscape to bring niche asset investment options to NZ investors.
Our mission
Raise’s mission is to ensure that its fund options tackle accessibility constraints for niche asset classes for NZ investors, and in doing so Raise will ensure all funds are tailored specifically for the NZ regulatory and NZ tax regimes.
The Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund is the flagship fund for Raise and reflects our mission to make alternative asset investments NZ accessible, NZ regulatory compliant and NZ tax effective for NZ investors.
In order to bring funds to market, Raise has partnered with some of New Zealand’s best fund service providers.
This operating model ensures specialists providers for regulatory compliance, audit, tax, distribution, fund administration and custody.
This enables multiple layers of oversight and consequentially allows Raise to focus on investment management activities, as well as ensure the fund service providers are focussed and optimised.
Raise is jointly owned by the family interests of Anthony Edmonds and by Gareth Fleming
Anthony was the Founder of Implemented Investment Solutions Limited (now FundRock NZ Limited) and InvestNow.
Gareth was Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer alongside Anthony over the 10 years FundRock and InvestNow were established and grown into substantial NZ investment management businesses.
They subsequently sold these businesses to Apex Group in 2022, which is a global investment administration business. Gareth is now Managing Director of Raise.

Investment philosophy
Raise is seeking to offer New Zealand Portfolio Investment Entity (PIE) funds in asset classes that are more niche in nature, may be challenging to access, or have other complexities for New Zealand investors.
Raise’s investment approach is to invest in securities listed on foreign share markets, which are managed by external sector specialist investment managers.
The investment philosophy is grounded in the belief that chosen niche assets, represent asset classes with the potential to provide diversification benefits and long-term value within a portfolio. The markets we will trade will be both liquid and deeply traded and therefore generally efficient, and that attempting to outperform through active management introduces unnecessary risk and cost.
Accordingly, our funds adopt an investment philosophy aiming to deliver returns that closely track the performance of an index rather than seeking to generate alpha through active trading or discretionary decisions. This approach reflects our conviction that transparent, rules-based exposure to asset classes offers investors a more reliable and cost-effective means of participating in the chosen market.

Our beach-head Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund is a good example of how we apply this investment philosophy.
Raise is responsible for identifying investment vehicles that best achieve investment strategies (i.e. underlying funds).
Raise must also ensure the vehicles continue to achieve investment strategies over time and consider whether any other vehicles are preferable.
In Selecting the underlying funds for the Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund, Raise analyses and compares several available vehicles for suitability.
Analysis and comparison include consideration of the following:
• reputation of underlying fund manager
• funds under management
• fees charged
• fund liquidity and ease of execution
• correlation to assets
• tax claimed within underlying fund
• inception date and performance history
• custody of assets and reputation of custodian; and
• auditor and audit findings
